This is a lighter take on the more traditional pâté. Oily fish provides a healthy alternative to meat-based treats, while live natural yogurt helps to maintain a healthy gut.
This mackerel pâté has all the goodness you would expect from an oily fish. It also contains vitamin B6, which is essential in the formation of red blood cells and helps your dog to digest protein. Smoked mackerel can be salty, so only feed this dish to your dog as a special treat in small quantities.
Makes 8 portions
Preparation time: 15 minutes
250 g (8 oz) smoked mackerel fillets, skinned
200 g (7 oz) low-fat cream cheese
200 g (7 oz) low-fat live natural yogurt
15 g (1/2 oz) parsley, chopped
1 Place the mackerel in a large bowl and mash with a fork or process in a food processor. Add the cheese, yogurt and parsley and mix until well combined.
2 Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate until needed. Use as a healthy, tasty topping for your dog’s main meal of the day. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Bring each portion up to room temperature (for about 10 minutes) before serving.
